909, 808 & 303 at Bloc Weekender, 2015【TAPE】- Dj Funk

Never Sleep—a Berlin-based independent label and platform with a multifaceted focus on rave and hardcore (gabber) subcultures—has released the 18th installment of its ongoing charity cassette series. This edition features a legendary, approximately 90-minute live performance by the late Chicago Ghetto House icon DJ Funk, who sadly passed away in 2025. The recording captures his set from the 2015 Bloc Weekender festival in the UK. True to the spirit of the genre, the performance showcases a relentless barrage of tracks driven by the iconic Roland TR-909 and TR-808 drum machines, alongside the TB-303 bass synthesizer. The tape serves as a precious historical document, capturing DJ Funk’s own high-energy mic work as he pushes the dance floor to its absolute limit. Packed with his signature anthems and classic, instantly recognizable vocal hooks, this release acts as a concentrated distillation of the history of Booty/Ghetto House. All proceeds from this release will be donated to his surviving family.
