The kora, a traditional West African stringed instrument from Mali, Gambia, and Senegal, has a pleasant, transparent sound reminiscent of a harp, classical guitar, or even a Japanese koto. This earthy and majestic tone is fused with the warm singing voice of Koité, who comes from a family of griots (djéli) who have orally passed down West African history, stories, and traditional music for generations, and who cherishes his personal favorite melodies and the spirit of tradition. This is an extremely pure and precious recording.
