日本でDJとして活動し、現在は韓国のレコードバーLe Montreuxで選曲を担当するDJ SAGARAXXによるMIXテープ・シリーズ第3弾『ESSENTIAL BEATS』。

当時、アメリカから海を越えて届いたヒップホップは、UKの若者たちに決定的な衝撃を与えました。イギリスへ渡ったカリブ諸島からの移民2世・3世たちが持ち込んだダブやレゲエの重低音、そして現地の白人青年たちが吸収してきたソウルやロックの感覚。これらがアメリカのヒップホップと交差し、かつての「Blue Eyed Soul（白人によるソウル・ミュージック）」になぞらえて「Blue Eyed Hip Hop」とでも呼ぶべき、UK独自の新しいビート・カルチャーが誕生します。

名門「Mo' Wax」レーベルなどに代表されるこのムーブメントは、単なるヒップホップの模倣にとどまりませんでした。歌声を削ぎ落としたインストゥルメンタル・ビートや、浮遊感のあるトリップホップ、さらには疾走するリズムのジャングルやドラムンベースへと発展。ジャンルの境界を越えたスタイリッシュなサウンドへと進化を遂げ、ヨーロッパ各国やアメリカ西海岸、そして日本へと飛び火して世界中の音楽シーンを魅了。後の2000年代初頭の電子音楽（エレクトロニカ）シーンへとつながっていきました。

多様なルーツが溶け合い生み出されたダイナミックなグルーヴと、90年代UKビートの熱気を凝縮した約90分のストーリー。

The third installment in the mixtape series by DJ SAGARAXX—who built his career in Tokyo and is now active globally, based in South Korea—has arrived. Released about two years after his previous work, this mix focuses on the wave of beat music that flourished in the UK during the 1990s. Spanning approximately 90 minutes, the mix delivers a sophisticated, groovy soundscape where the UK's unique beat culture intersects with diverse musical roots; it features everything from stripped-back instrumental beats and atmospheric trip-hop to the high-speed rhythms of jungle and drum & bass. It is the perfect accompaniment for late-night drives, quiet evenings spent immersing yourself in the music, or reading. As with the previous release, the cover art features photography by South African artist Kgomotso Neto.
