ヒップホップ界の異才 MF DOOM（Metal Fingers 名義） が手掛けるインストゥルメンタルシリーズ『Special Herbs』の第7＆8巻がカセットでリリース。2004年9月21日に初出された本作は、DOOM自身のプロデュースワークをそのままインストで味わえる13トラック収録の作品です。

『Special Herbs』シリーズは、70年代ソウルやファンク、80年代R&Bなど多彩なサンプルソースを使いながらも、独自のリズムとループ感でビートを構築するDOOMの製作哲学が詰まったインスト集。各トラックはハーブや植物の名で命名され、トラックごとに異なるムードや質感が展開します。

本作には “Safed Musli”、“Emblica Officinalis”、“Licorice”、“Sarsaparilla”、“High John”、“Wormwood”、“Cedar” などシリーズを象徴するビート群を収録。DOOMのクリエイティブなサンプリングと、制約を飛び越えるプロダクションが濃縮された一本です。

The 7th and 8th volumes of the instrumental series ‘Special Herbs’ by hip-hop maverick MF DOOM (under the alias Metal Fingers) are released on cassette. Originally released on September 21, 2004, this work features 13 tracks allowing listeners to experience DOOM's own production work purely as instrumentals.
