ブラジルのカントリー・ミュージックの一形態であるムシカ・カイピラ（「ヒルビリー・ミュージック」）のサーベイ第2弾は、ムシカ・セルタネージャ（アメリカのカントリー＆ウエスタンに相当するブラジルのムシカ・セルタネージャの前身）のストリップバック・ミュージックである。このコレクションは、1920年代末に先駆的な民俗学者コルネリオ・ピレスが録音した初期のものから、30年代、40年代、50年代、そして60年代初頭のレコードまでを網羅している。セルタネージャの洗練されたポップ・カントリーやウエスタン・スタイルとは一線を画し、これらのレコーディングは、アメリカのダストボールやアパラチアのルーツ・ミュージックに相当するブラジルの音楽といえるだろう。

The second survey of musica caipira (“hillbilly music”), a form of Brazilian country music, is the stripped-back music of musica sertaneja (the Brazilian equivalent of the American country and western) The first collection was created in the late 1920s. The collection covers records from the early years, recorded by pioneering folklorist Cornelio Pires in the late 1920s, through the '30s, '40s, '50s, and early '60s. Distinct from the sophisticated pop-country and western styles of sertaneja, these recordings are the Brazilian equivalent of American dust bowl or Appalachian roots music.
