Teppana Jänis 【TAPE】- Teppana Jänis & Arja Kastinen

Teppana Jänisは19世紀末に失明した後、彼は家々を巡り、フィンランドとカレリアの伝統的な撥弦楽器であるカンテレ（南東バルト地方の箱琴の一種）を弾いて生計を立てた。本作では、1916-17年に録音されたそのカンテレ演奏と、研究者／奏者である Arja Kastinen、民俗音楽家Taito Hoffrén が2020-21年に録音した演奏を融合、そして編集したアーカイブ音源 × 現代演奏という構造をとり、時間を越えた“伝統音楽の再構築”の作品を生み出しました。

After Teppana Jänis went blind at the end of the 19th century, he made a living traveling from house to house playing the kantele (a type of box harp from the southeastern Baltic region), a traditional plucked string instrument of Finland and Karelia. This work combines recordings of his kantele performances from 1916-17 with performances recorded in 2020-21 by researcher/performer Arja Kastinen and folk musician Taito Hoffrén, and combines the resulting archive recordings with contemporary performances to create a work that transcends time and "reconstructs traditional music."
