🇺🇸LAを拠点に活動するシンガー／ラッパー Liv.e と、デトロイト出身のドラマー／プロデューサー Karriem Riggins によるユニット GENA のデビューアルバム『The Pleasure Is Yours』。GENA は “God Energy, Naturally Amazing” の頭文字。ジャズ、ソウル、HIPHOP、R&Bを自由に横断する2人が、オンラインでのセッションを重ねながら、お互いの音に反応するように作り上げた作品。Liv.eのスモーキーで流線なヴォーカル／ラップと、Common、Erykah Badu、The Roots、Madlibらとの仕事でも知られるKarriem Rigginsの繊細かつ強靭なドラムが融合。Isaiah Sharkey、James Francies、Telemakusらも参加し、ジャズの即興性とソウル、R&B、HIPHOPが溶け合う独特のサウンドを生み出している。温かくアナログな質感を持ちながら、どこか未来的でエーテルな空気も漂う全16曲。ジャンルに縛られることなく、Liv.e × Karriem Rigginsの2人が音で語り合い、遊び心と即興性を融合させた今年度の重要作品だ🔈

🇺🇸 GENA—a duo consisting of Los Angeles-based singer/rapper Liv.e and Detroit-born drummer/producer Karriem Riggins—releases their debut album, *The Pleasure Is Yours*. GENA stands for “God Energy, Naturally Amazing.” The duo, who freely traverse the genres of jazz, soul, hip-hop, and R&B, created this album through a series of online sessions, crafting it as they reacted to each other’s sounds. Liv.e’s smoky, fluid vocals and rapping blend with the delicate yet powerful drumming of Karriem Riggins, known for his work with Common, Erykah Badu, The Roots, and Madlib. With contributions from Isaiah Sharkey, James Francies, and Telemakus, the album creates a unique sound where jazz improvisation melds with soul, R&B, and hip-hop. The 16-track album possesses a warm, analog texture while also exuding a somewhat futuristic and ethereal atmosphere.
